I was grabbing some quick snapshots of my peeps in Tabula Rasa, and realized that I’ve been doing this character portrait thing all wrong. You know, you find a nice location, turn off the GUI, find a dramatic angle, and capture

Well that’s the old thing. The new thing is to show the character avatar the way the designers intended. From the rear. For example, here’s Brock Talen:

Cute, isn’t he? He still hasn’t lost his  youthful idealism. And then there’s Bret:

Bret prefers armor in “classy” colors, such as orange and brown. The large moustache announces his macho vanity.

I had originally planned to show the female avatars “as I generally see them”, but ultimately decided that ass close-ups all over my character page wouldn’t make a good first impression, you know, on the ladies. So, here’s Laverna as I would see her if I wasn’t a guy:

Yup. By fall, everybody will be doing it this way.

Background: My car is in the shop getting painted, so I’ve been either on my bicycle or driving a V8 ford truck. From a skype exchange this afternoon:

[16:42:12] I’m really done. Having a hard drive fail the night before a customer visit sucked. Well, fail… anyway. Not the point.
[16:45:04] <friend>: Have a beer for me too!
[16:45:51] tekhedd: Will do. Think I’ll ride ye bike down to maya cove.
[16:45:57] Plus side: save on gas money.
[16:46:04] Minus side: no excuse not to get totally trolleyed.
[16:46:09] <friend>: Ahh!
[16:46:14] tekhedd: heh
[16:46:38] But hell, if I sell the xbox tomorrow (I now have 5!!! potential buyers in the queue) I will have just enough money to get the car back. No gas money.
[16:46:57] $4000? I could buy a second car for that. Or a roomful of hookers.

(Ewwwwww! On second thought, maybe I’ll just get the car back.)

The much-hyped (and yet ignored by me until just today) release of Spore got me thinking about Sim Ant. I really have nothing to say about it, I just remember that Sim Ant was neat. I did mention that I’m a sucker for concept games, right?
