The XBox 360 Reciever that Couldn’t

For my birthday (that was today), I went to the big evil chain store Best Buy, and bought a couple of games, and the XBox 360 Receiver. because, hey, I’d love to sit on the couch and play PC games, wirelessly. And, since I have a 360 (please stop laughing at me), I have a 360 controller. I like it, it uses the Nintendo control layout, which has always worked for me, and so on. So, for about $26(US), This Little Sucker promises all kinds of goodness.

And I won’t elaborate. It didn’t work at all. I plugged it in, and the only thing that happened is that my mouse stopped responding. I tried to associate it with my 360 controller, but that wouldn’t work. I got the latest drivers from Microsoft.com, and that didn’t help.

A quick search of the web found that lots of people are having trouble making this thing work. Workarounds include “unplug all other USB peripherals”. What, you mean like the mouse and keyboard? Screw that! I returned it.

The humiliating part is that every time I tell somebody about this, they laugh, shrug, and say “what did you expect, it’s from Microsoft”. I am ashamed. That’s my line.
