SAMAMP: Get “that guitar tone” at any volume

Whoa, I suddenly got a bad case of GAS. My college friend Sam is making guitar amps, called the SAMAMP. (I wonder what the name means.)

They also look really cool!

He limits the current and voltage in the power supply in the output stage so that you can run the amp at “that perfect volume level” to get that power-stage tone you want, but do it at different power levels, without generating a bunch of waste heat. Apparently “light bulbs” are an important part of this patent-applied-for system. It sounds a bit sketchy, but it’s a very sensible way to control current in a tube-based amp.

Sam has always been a tone chaser, so I would imagine the amps sound great, regardless of what power level they put out. I want one! It’s a good thing he doesn’t make bass amps, or I’d really be in trouble!

They’re not cheap, but they are comparable in price to other boutique amps. And of course they’re handmade in the US by actual Americans.
