Endgame content? What endgame content?

I wouldn’t really describe myself as a hardcore gamer. On the other hand, I wouldn’t describe myself as a casual gamer. Far from it. But my playtime is so fractured that I’ve never seen the “endgame” of any online game, despite an entire career’s worth of wasted time gaming.

The closest I’ve been is to have a level 48 in City of Heroes. The closer I get to the endgame and “repeatable content”, the less interesting I think the game and content are. I preordered Tabula Rasa, have been playing intermittently since launch, and still like the game. I think this is possibly because my highest level player is only level 17. I’m just not in a hurry. Why would I be?

It’s a rare game that I play all the way to the end, and a rarer one that I play twice. Of course, sometimes this is because I compulsively explore every section of a level and side quests, so I end up taking longer to not complete the game than many people take to play it through. I’m one of these people that actually reads the quest descriptions in a game. It’s very annoying to be with a group that never has and never will–they just want the dot on the radar and a boss to kill. Shallow, shallow, shallow.

So, I can not relate, at all, to people who whine about “endgame content”. I hate repeatedly killing the same end bosses to level up, so how can they stand to do the same entire quest tree over and over for years? Why would any sane person race through a game as fast as possible to get past all of the content, so they can get to the part that’s boring? Hardcore gamers are all crazy.

    We’re not all crazy. >.>

Actually this expansion piece of WoW, is the only time I’ve strived to do “endgame” content. I never rushed to level to 60. I started playing in 7/05 after seeing the game at a friend’s house. I played casually doing whatever I felt like doing and hit 60 in 10/06. I never raided. Mostly I did 5 man dungeons, played battlegrounds, experimented with what was soloable or explorable. I still do those things at 70 even though I probably play as a hardcore player now. 4 days a week raiding, and on the “final” boss of TBC raiding. I won’t ever get that feeling of beating the game though. I think that’s the real difference between the “crazy” hardcore, and the player that enjoys endgame. You don’t beat an MMO. You savor the world and enjoy the socialization.
